Launch-week Ultimate Team prices are noisy. Popular names can cost far more than less famous cards with the exact attributes your system needs.
Instead of asking 'who is the highest rated player I can afford?', build by role. A fast recovery defender, press-resistant midfielder or direct runner can improve the team more than a small OVR upgrade.

- Useful PlayStyles that match the role you want the player to perform.
- Multiple positions so one card can survive formation changes.
- Strong weak foot for central attackers and midfielders under pressure.
- Height and physical presence where aerials or shielding matter.
- League and nation links that make the rest of your team easier to build.
- An Evolution-friendly profile if you want the card to stay relevant for longer.
Spend where you feel the difference
Starter teams often improve fastest when Coins go into the positions that touch the ball most or solve a clear weakness. If your striker is already finishing chances, replacing him for a tiny rating gain may matter less than fixing a slow centre-back or a midfielder who cannot turn under pressure.
Keep some budget back. The launch market moves quickly and new SBCs, rewards and Evolutions can create better options without warning.
