The quick answer: separate Coin cost from the fodder you give up
If you already own untradeable cards, they may reduce the number of new cards you need to buy to finish an FC 27 SBC. But they are not worthless: once you submit a card, you give up any future use of it in matches, Evolutions or other challenges.
To estimate your remaining Coin spend, check the SBC's current requirements, add up the eligible Item Score you are willing to submit, subtract that from the target and compare the cheapest eligible ways to fill the remaining gap. This applies to the score-based format that EA calls Simplified SBCs in its Help article and Streamlined SBCs in its launch update.
A four-step SBC cost check before submitting anything
The important distinction is eligibility versus availability: an item in your Club is not automatically valid for every SBC. EA's challenge screen is the final authority for requirements and Item Score.
- 1. Check the exact reward, expiry time, minimum Item rating and any other eligibility restrictions in the active SBC.
- 2. Check your Club and SBC Storage for spare or duplicate untradeable cards. Keep cards you actually use or may need for a valuable future Evolution.
- 3. Read each eligible card's Item Score in-game. Do not estimate a special card's contribution from its overall rating alone; rarity and Holographic bonuses can affect it.
- 4. Compare the score gap against cards you could use or buy, and preview the final selection to avoid unnecessary excess Item Score. Submit only when you're happy to lose every selected item.
Worked example: what if your untradeables cover most of the SBC?
Suppose a hypothetical Streamlined SBC requires 10,000 Item Score. You have eligible spare untradeables worth a combined 6,200 Item Score, and you are happy to sacrifice them. Your remaining gap is 3,800 Item Score: 10,000 minus 6,200.
Next, compare two or three eligible combinations that would add at least 3,800 more points. If one route requires buying cards for 8,000 Coins and another costs 10,500 Coins, the first has the lower additional Coin outlay, assuming the same submitted items and eligibility.
Those figures are an arithmetic illustration, not an active FC 27 SBC, an official score table or a live market quote. The true cost also includes the opportunity cost of the cards you submit. If you don't want to sacrifice the 6,200-point group, you must calculate a different route.
Do not feed the SBC more Item Score than it needs
EA warns players if the selected items greatly exceed the required score. Don't rely on the warning alone: try replacing a high-contribution item with cheaper or less useful items before confirming. A special or Holographic card can contribute extra points because of its bonuses, but could also be more valuable to keep.
Do not chase perfect zero-overage at the expense of losing a card you wanted to retain. Your goal is a sensible submission, not just a mathematically exact Item Score.

Can you submit untradeable duplicates or finish later?
Yes. EA says eligible duplicates can be submitted to a Simplified SBC, and you can make partial progress across multiple sessions. That can help if you receive untradeable duplicates before you have all the score required.
However, submitted cards are removed immediately and permanently, including when you only make partial progress. If a challenge expires before you finish, you do not get those cards back. EA documents possible reduced untradeable rewards based on partial progress, but you should never assume the full advertised reward is guaranteed when you stop early.
When is using untradeable fodder actually a bad deal?
Think of an untradeable item as having zero new Coin outlay but potentially meaningful replacement value. That distinction stops you treating every card already in your Club as free fodder.
- When it removes a starter, super-sub, first-owner item or Evolution candidate you'll struggle to replace.
- When a special rarity card has usefulness beyond its score, even if it contributes more points now.
- When the reward is not useful to your squad, or you'd rather keep your options open for an upcoming SBC.
- When the challenge expires soon and you are not confident you can afford the remaining score.
- When the SBC is a traditional Puzzle SBC, not a score-based one: chemistry, rating, nation and club restrictions change the calculation.
Should you use a cheap SBC solution website?
A solution site can be helpful for comparing estimated market prices, but its result may assume you buy every item. Your personal cheapest route depends on which eligible cards are already in your Club and which ones you want to keep.
Before following a solution, separate cards you already own from cards you would need to purchase, check the current platform prices in-game and review any restrictions. FC 27's price and Item Score data can move, so cached solutions are not promises.
The bottom line
For FC 27 Streamlined SBCs, calculate the missing Item Score first and the new Coin spend second. Spare untradeables can reduce what you pay, but avoid burning valuable items or making irreversible partial submissions just because the Coins column looks cheap.
